FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST

We follow Christ, and Him alone (John 14:6). We are a group of imperfect people striving to serve a perfect God. While we believe that the Old Testament and the New Testament comprise the inspired Word of God, and that the Old Law is beneficial to us (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11), we believe the New Testament is our sole source of authority in worship and daily living (Ephesians 2:14-16). We believe that there is a pattern to be followed (Romans 6:17; 2 Timothy 1:13). In everything that we do our example to imitate is Christ (1 Peter 2:21).

Following Christ is not easy, Jesus said that if one wishes to be His disciple he must, “deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it” (Luke 9:23-24). Denying self means saying “no” to sin and selfishness. It means that we no longer live for ourselves, but we live for the One who died to purchase us. We worship how He prescribed, and we live in a manner befitting His sacrifice.

Christ’s loving voice implores all who would, to follow Him and be blessed — “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
